Kris and John Orton have owned and operated John Orton Excavating for the last 35 years. They built this company with the highest standards and quality workmanship. John graduated from Parowan High School in 1969 and then attended Southern Utah University. He then went on to start the company in 1981. He holds 35+ years’ experience in the excavating industry. Kris graduated from Redland High School in 1971, was assistant manager at SUU bookstore for 13 years, and ran MCO Tire for 10 years. They opened MCO Tire in 1997 and are still part owners in this thriving business. They are proud of what they have built over all the years and are now moving one step closer to retirement. John has been training his son Kody for the last 17 years in every aspect of the business. They have full confidence in Kody and his ability to grow and succeed in this business. They are looking forward to retirement to spend more time doing the things that they love including hunting, fishing, quilting, spending time at Lake Powell, and most of all spending as much time as they can with their grandchildren.

Kody Orton
Kody has been working for John Orton Excavating for the last 17 years and is now proud to be an owner in this business. He graduated from Canyon View High School in 1999 and went on to Southern Utah University and received his BS in Construction Management in 2009. He is a skilled operator and a key estimator for the company. Some of his other responsibilities include Job Foreman, managing employees, working with customers and engineers, and job safety. Kody is looking forward to growing the business that his parents have built and keep the wonderful reputation alive. Kody and his wife Brittney have been married sense 2009 and have three beautiful girls. Kody loves to hunt and fish just like his dad, but his favorite thing to do is to spend time with his family. If you were to ask him what his favorite part of the day is, he would say; coming home to his kids meeting him at the door with pure excitement, hugs, and kisses. He looks forward to working and building relationships of his own with customers and is excited about the future.
Will Mitchell
Will is a key employee with John Orton Excavating. He joined the company in 2014 and has grown and learned so much in the short time that he has been here. He graduated from Cedar High School in 2001 and continued his education at Southern Utah University and graduated with a BS in marketing in 2011. He is enthusiastic about learning and making this firm successful. He enjoys learning to operate the heavy equipment. His main job responsibilities include estimating and safety coordinator. He got married in 2011 and has a growing family. He enjoys hiking, playing sports, and spending time with his family.
